Claude Gardy (1949) - Marine & Voiliers

CLAUDE GARDY (born 1949) Sea Scene — Coastal Landscape Oil on panel, signed bottom right Dimensions: 19 × 27 cm In this luminous seascape, Claude Gardy unfolds a figurative painting with Impressionist sensibility, where the richness of the material and the liveliness of the brush give the landscape its full atmospheric depth. The sky, pierced by clouds in blue-gray, ivory and silvery tones, creates a subtle play of light and movement. Below, the waters in turquoise, slate blue and gray reflect this changing clarity. The rocky shore, dotted with small silhouettes, guides the eye toward the sailboats with red-orange sails, while the buildings and masts on the horizon place the scene in a tranquil evocation of the coast. The work is distinguished by a free and expressive facture, characterized by visible brushstrokes, color overlays and impasto that animate the pictorial surface. The contrast between the cool tones of the sea and sky and the warm accents of the sails gives the composition its balance and intensity. The Gardy signature, located bottom right, discreetly accompanies this composition. The elegant gilded sculpted frame emphasizes the decorative presence of the whole and offers a refined contrast with the maritime palette. Through its intimate format, its nuanced atmosphere and its spontaneous painterly writing, this seascape will appeal to lovers of coastal landscapes and expressive figurative painting. A work of character, where light, color and material unite in a sensitive interpretation of the marine landscape.
