Provenance: Sale, Sotheby's, London, British Pictures, 3 February 1993, lot 18 (as Attributed to Hugh Douglas Hamilton) Condition Report: The canvas is relined and presents subtle craquelure. Stretcher marks are visible along the right and left sides. UV light reveals substantial retouching in the background, as well as on the visage, particularly around the mouth and eyes. Such restoration has, however, been carried out professionally and meticulously, and is only visible under UV light.
