Christian objects - Art Deco - Bronze - 1920-1930

Antique bronze crucifix from the 1910s-1930s of French manufacture. The grape stalks descend in a very straight line along the cross, characteristic of the transition between the organic curves of Art Nouveau and the structured geometry of Art Deco. The hammered honeycomb background of the cross was a very popular representation of religious and decorative objects in the 1930s. The sleek, pared-down silhouette of the drapery conforms to the modernist sculpture codes of the interwar period. The object stands 36 cm high and 14 cm wide and weighs just over 1 kilogram.
