Exceedingly Rare Ni Ssu-ch'ung Medallic 50 Cents in Gold CHINA. Ni Ssu-ch'ung Gold Medallic 50 Cents, Year 9 (1920). Anking Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details. L&M-1122; K-pl. 189; KMX-M990; WS-0080A. Variety with six-pointed stars. Much more commonly encountered in silver or even copper, this type represents an EXCEPTIONAL RARITY, with the last such specimen in gold in one of our sales occurring over a decade-and-a-half ago in our [Ponterio & Associates] December 2010 Hong Kong Auction (Lot # 1079). Lightly cleaned as noted, though otherwise remaining without any actual wear across the highest points, and with an astounding array of lustrous brilliance shimmering throughout. Of note, a strike-through, likely from a stray piece of string, is observed to the right of the bust, while a small depression, likely from another foreign substance on the die or planchet during strike, is seen to the left of the bust. Estimate: $40,000 - $60,000. Provenance: From the MC Collection (陳氏家族集藏). To view all items from the MC Collection (陳氏家族集藏), click here. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
