CHINA. Kirin. 3 Chien (Mace), Year 10 (1884). Kirin Mint. Kuang-hsu

Stunning Kirin 3 Mace with "Spiked" Dragon CHINA. Kirin. 3 Chien (Mace), Year 10 (1884). Kirin Mint. Kuang-hsu (Guangxu). PCGS AU-58. L&M-506; K-918A; KM-Y-170; WS-0355. Variety with spiked (hairy) dragon with five tail spines. A type that no doubt may be considered EXCESSIVELY RARE, with just two others being traced in sales over the past two decades. The more recent, a PCGS MS-61 from the Robin C S Cheng Collection, realized a total of $183,000 in our April 2026 Hong Kong Auction (Lot # 41053). Meanwhile, one must go all the way back to 2014 for the other, the Ake Linden example, a mere PCGS AU Details specimen. While falling just two grade levels below the aforementioned Cheng example, the present piece nevertheless provides a sharp and exacting strike along with highly attractive toning. Of note, it also features a slightly more detailed dragon, in that there are spikes on the dragon's chin and head, as well as upon its entire spine. Also, the tail ends in five spines, rather than the regular type (K-918), which terminates in just two. Estimate: $80,000 - $120,000. Provenance: From the Liu Mung Wang (汪柳門) Collection.
