Chicoreus axicornis (40 mm

Chicoreus axicornis (40 mm

Scientific name: Chicoreus axicornis (Lamarck, 1822) – in the German-speaking world known as the horned spiny snail or Axis-horn Murex. Origin & Localities: Philippines; this excellent specimen comes from the fish-rich waters around Samar Island. The region is valued in professional circles for its highly branched, high-contrast deep-sea forms. Habitat: A typical resident of deeper water zones. The species lives on sandy-silty bottoms and near reef slopes at depths of 20 to 100 meters, where it is mainly recovered by local fishermen with nets (tangle nets). Size & Preservation: 40 mm – an excellent cabinet-size specimen. Condition GEM (Absolute museum-grade and top quality): With this delicate species extremely rare, since the characteristic horned spines on the shell sides and the delicate siphonal canal are almost always damaged during capture or transport. This specimen has a completely intact crown of spines, a razor-sharp outer lip, and perfect surface luster. SKU Oberdiek Murex axicornis 50
