Charles François Prosper Guérin (1875/1939) Born in Sens on February 21, 1875, and died in Paris on March 19, 1939 "Post-Impressionist Precursor" Oil on canvas "Self-portrait with a Pipe" Signed at the lower right "CHG" Canvas dimensions: H 73.5 cm x W 60.5 cm Good condition, with restoration. Charles Guérin was a pupil of Gustave Moreau at the School of Fine Arts in Paris and belonged to the post-impressionist movement. His art was considered revolutionary at the time due to the freedom of his palette, ahead of Fauvism. He was a professor in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and head of the painting studio, La Grande Masse des Beaux-Arts, from 1937 to 1939 at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts. Some of his works are held at the Petit Palais and in various international museums (Venice, Tokyo, Moscow, Geneva).
