Toutes les enchères / Mobilier, Design & Miroirs / Chair - Mahogany, straw
Carved mahogany dining chair with a seat and backrest featuring double caning intertwined, Victorian style This chair represents a refined example of Victorian furniture from the second half of the 19th century, characterized by elaborate carvings in solid mahogany and the use of double caning intertwined for the seat and back. Victorian mahogany chairs were produced mainly in England and the British colonies, where skilled craftsmen created decorative pieces for the bourgeois residences of the era. Mahogany, a precious wood imported from the Americas, conferred prestige and durability to the furniture, while the double intertwined caning added comfort and a light visual feel. These chairs are highly valued by collectors of antique furniture and by enthusiasts of Victorian decor for their timeless elegance and superior craftsmanship. The detailed carvings, harmonious proportions, and the use of mahogany make them sought-after decorative pieces for both everyday use and display in classical settings. The antique market particularly values well-preserved examples with original or professionally restored caning, making them interesting investments for those who love European and British historic furniture.
