Céramique Montoise - Antoine Dubois - Vase - 282 - Ceramic - Vase Bergen

This Art Deco ceramic vase is a superb creation by the pottery La Céramique Montoise, established in Mons in Belgium and founded in the early twenties by Antoine Dubois. Vase in ceramic signed C. M. Bergen Art Deco - Le Cabinet des Antiques. The piece adopts an ovoid, very bulbous urn-like shape resting on a recessed circular footed base, topped by a short cylindrical neck with a straight rim. The hand-painted polychrome decoration displays stylized floral and vegetal motifs alternating large tulip flowers in pink lilac mauve and geometric slits in intense cobalt blue or orange, all enclosed in reserves bordered by ochre scrolls and friezes of stylized green moss ferns. The neck and the pedestal receive a matte black glaze with a satin-like appearance, while decorative bands of dotted lines and geometric squares emphasize the top and bottom of the body. The object has a total height of about 20 cm, a neck diameter of 6 cm and a maximum body diameter of about 16 cm, with an individual weight of 800 g. The white earthenware base features all the original markings painted in black ink underglaze, including the monogram C. M explicitly standing for Ceramique Montoise, the city name Bergen which is the Flemish and historical translation for the municipality of Mons, the workshop form or model references numbers 282 and 105 as well as a stylized drawing depicting a mountain or hill directly evoking the factory name Bits and bobs - Gouda Design. The general condition of preservation is very good, as the ceramic shows no chips, no major nicks, nor structural cracks on the body or the neck. There are simply some light superficial traces and minor signs of wear consistent with its age and antiquity.
