Ceramiche Pozzi Gallarate - Ambrogio Pozzi - Table service (9) - Ceramic

Important and original kitchen service produced by Ceramica Franco Pozzi of Gallarate, characterized by the famous geometric “Righe” motif, one of Pozzi’s most representative decorations from the late 1960s to the 1970s. The service stands out for the elegant alternation of horizontal white, orange, and olive green bands, a color combination typically linked to the design culture and Italian domestic aesthetics of the period. The design, seemingly simple, gains particular strength from the regularity of the bands and the contrast between the warm colors and the white ceramic surface. Particularly distinctive are the natural wood lids, with rounded shapes, which create an interesting material contrast with the glazed ceramic. The wood, in addition to its practical function, helps define the modernist and informal aesthetics of the entire service. The composition includes containers of different sizes, jars, small spice holders, and two taller elements with handles, plus the special wooden base intended to house some of the containers. A coordinated and articulated ensemble, today not commonly found in complete form. The striped motif belongs to the more modern phase of Franco Pozzi production, when the majolica increasingly oriented itself toward a language close to industrial design, made of essential shapes, geometries, and decisive colors. It is a particularly interesting period also due to the presence of Ambrogio Pozzi, a central figure in the artistic and design development of the majolica. In good overall condition, the oil and vinegar have defects more evident as shown in the photograph. Very rare.
