Bust "Goddess of Butrint" / Apollo of Praxiteles – Archaeological Replica on Wooden Base. An impressive and stylish museum replica of one of the most iconic archaeological finds in the Mediterranean: the "Head of Apollo," worldwide famous as the "Goddess of Butrint" (Dea di Butrinto). The Story & History: The original marble head was unearthed in 1928 by the renowned Italian archaeologist Luigi Maria Ugolini in the ancient theater of Butrint (present-day Albania). Ugolini initially named the sculpture the "Goddess of Butrint" because of its exceptionally soft, elegant facial features. Art historians later identified the bust as an idealized, androgynous portrayal of the Greek god Apollo, influenced by the famous Classical-Greek school of sculpture of Praxiteles (4th century BC). The original marble masterwork is now housed in the National Historical Museum in Tirana. Features & Details: Model: Replica of the Dea di Butrinto / Head of Apollo (Praxitelean style). Material: Cast gypsum/composite with a lovely, time-worn antique patina and subtle craquelé marks, giving it the allure of a museum piece. Pedestal: Mounted on a sleek, solid wooden base with a steel pin. Condition: In excellent condition with a beautifully authentic character. See the detailed photos for a good impression. Size: See the photo with the water bottle for scale. A valuable decorative object, particularly suitable for lovers of classical archaeology, Grand Tour collections, Neoclassical interiors, or as a centerpiece in a modern design interior.
