Central African Wood & Goatskin Drum with Carved Ancestral Heads

Central Africa, possibly Democratic Republic of the Congo. A double-headed drum with a tapering wooden body ringed by heads carved in high relief, likely representing ancestors. The heads are attached via resin, and each heart-shaped face has heavy-lidded eyes beneath a cross-and-lozenge motif cut into the brow. Goatskin heads are stretched over both ends and laced together with hide thongs that run the length of the body, and tufts of fur still cling along the lacing. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 205719
