Celotto - Nino Gobbis - Panel - Softwood

This panel of remarkable size (69 x 122) is a woodblock print by Nino Gobbis, inspired by archaic-tribal motifs. Nino Gobbis used faesite (also known as hardboard or Masonite) as the matrix. The piece shows some light signs of aging and a few chips, later restored with a conservation intervention that has not compromised its stability or its historical charm. Gobbis collaborated with Arreda by Celotto (Montebelluna), which in the 1950s produced furniture designed by Italian architects and designers famous as Piero Celotto, commissioning decorative panels from artists like Nino Gobbis for elements of furnishing bourgeois houses in Veneto. Nino Gobbis, Italian painter and printmaker active in the mid-20th century, a figure closely tied to the world of designer interiors and to Treviso-era mid-century modernism of the 1950s and 1960s. Statement of provenance I declare that the present panel comes from the private collection of the Celotto family of Montebelluna, since the time of its creation. The work subsequently became part of my private collection and is being offered for sale with this provenance declaration, issued in good faith.
