Carved Hyaline Quartz Cockatoo Sculpture Parrot on an...

Artistic Mineral Sculpture with Jasper and Sodalite Details — This extraordinary sculpture combines artisanal craftsmanship with natural beauty, depicting an elegant cockatoo perched on a base of amethyst druzy. The bird’s main body has been precisely carved from a block of clear quartz, a transparent, colorless variety of quartz, which gives the figure an ethereal luminosity and crystalline transparency. The sculpture highlights the delicate natural color variations of quartz, reflecting light in a suggestive way and emphasizing the meticulous work of the feathers and crest. The cockatoo’s beak is made of brown jasper, an opaque mineral characterized by a granular microstructure and earthy coloration, which offers a warm, tactile color contrast with the quartz’s translucency. The eyes are finely detailed with inclusions that simulate a pupil, while the terminal tail feathers feature inserts of intense blue sodalite. Sodalite, a tectosilicate known for its vivid color, adds a vibrant and unexpected touch of color, further highlighting the sculpture’s complexity and refinement. The base of the composition is formed by a spectacular amethyst druzy, a geode characterized by a cavity lined with a multitude of violet quartz crystals. The crystal formations of amethyst, with their bright terminations and tones ranging from pale lilac to deep violet, create a natural backdrop with a strong visual impact. This base not only provides stable support for the sculpture but also integrates the work into an authentic mineralogical context, enhancing its intrinsic beauty and geological origin. The provenance of these minerals is Brazil, a region worldwide renowned for the production of clear quartz, amethyst, and other minerals of exceptional quality. The carving of animal figures, such as this one, is a well-established practice in Brazil, where the abundance of raw materials and artisanal skill blend to create unique pieces. The sculpture exemplifies the high standard of workmanship typical of Brazilian artists who know how to transform rough gems into works of art. This specimen stands out for its structural integrity and excellent state of preservation. The finely incised details on the clear quartz and the accuracy in the anatomical representation of the cockatoo, combined with the natural brilliance of the amethyst druzy, make it a notably valuable collectible object. The combination of different minerals, selected for their colorimetric and structural properties, attests to a deep knowledge of materials and superior sculptural skill. An ideal piece for mineral sculpture collectors or anyone seeking a striking decorative element that blends the elegance of sculpture with the magnificence of nature. The fusion of quartz’s purity, jasper’s warmth, the blue of sodalite, and the purple of amethyst makes this sculpture a distinctive mineral artwork of undeniable aesthetic and collectible value.
