Carola Castro - Homenaje a Picasso

Carola Castro Art between the past and the present. Contemporary Painting-Madrid Carola Castro is an artist based in Madrid whose painting arises from the dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity. Her language stems from the fascination with art history and with artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Manolo Valdés and Miró, but she does not seek to reproduce them, rather to reinterpret their codes from a personal perspective. One of the elements that defines her work is the use of antique frames. For Carola Castro, the frame is not a secondary element; it is part of the artwork. “I’m interested in a work that seems to have lived a life before arriving to us.” Original acrylic on paper, glass and mat. I regularly access parameters I consider recurring, such as the constant assimilation of images from the past, the play with others’ language, focusing on both old and modern painters. I feel the sensation of a constant dive inward toward history. My study and research of the Cubist movement, especially Picasso’s extensive career, leads me into unknown territories. In each painting I try to review the problems and solutions that Picasso raised with cubism.
