A Nice XL Museum Quality masterpiece. “An object with virtually endless ways to be perceived, revealing a different detail each time you look at it, depending on the angle and the play of light.” 100% authentic Iron meteorite. Comes with certificate of authenticity of: - International Meteorite Collectors Association - Global Meteorite Association - The Meteoritical Society This meteorite has been professionally cleaned and treated. A process called electrolysis is used. This treatment takes about a month or more to complete and ensures the best quality and durability. If this process is not carried out, some meteorites begin to decompose and eventually turn to dust. General info: Originating from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. The base matter is approximately 4.5 billion years old. Campo del Cielo meteorites are fragments of a massive iron meteorite that fell to Earth approximately 4,000–5,000 years ago during the largest known metallic meteorite shower in Argentina. This event caused a field of meteorites in the provinces of Chaco and Santiago del Estero. Iron meteorites represent about 5 percent of all meteorites and as their name implies they are almost entirely composed of iron and nickel. All iron meteorites are made of a native metal called meteoric iron. The concentration of nickel has an influence on the mineralogy of the meteoric iron. Iron meteorites might be the most recognizable of all meteorites due to their density, unique surface thumbprinting, and geometric internal Widmanstätten patterns. These hefty space rocks originated as the metal cores of large asteroids that were obliterated by cosmic collisions in the distant past. Fragments of these shattered asteroids then traveled millions of miles through space before making a fiery descent to our planet’s surface! An excellent opportunity to acquire this masterpiece of the universe !
