Campo del Cielo Iron Meteorite - Extraordinary...

Ferroso Campo del Cielo Meteorite Specimen from Argentina — This specimen is an authentic fragment of the famous Campo del Cielo meteorite, an extraterrestrial formation that has marked Earth's geological and cultural history. Its rough, sculpted surface reveals the dramatic cosmic origin, shaped by its journey through the Earth's atmosphere and by impact. The Campo del Cielo meteorite is classified as a ferrous meteorite, composed mainly of iron and nickel. Its metallic composition gives it substantial density and a distinctive luster, observable in the folds and recesses of its structure. The surface cavities, known as regmaglypts or the meteorite’s “fingerprints,” are the result of ablation caused by the intense heat during atmospheric passage, making each piece unique. These fragments come from the Campo del Cielo region, a vast area between the provinces of Chaco and Santiago del Estero in Argentina, where about 4,000–5,000 years ago a meteor shower occurred. This catastrophic event left behind a field scattered with craters and fragments, which for centuries have been the subject of legends and scientific studies. The discovery and recovery of these meteorites have provided scientists with valuable insights into the formation of our solar system. The specimen offered is a tangible piece of cosmic history, a direct bridge to the origins of the solar system. Its irregular shape, the gray-silver color with darker tones in the cavities, and its unique texture make it a highly interesting object both scientifically and aesthetically. It is a magnificent piece for a collection, perfect for enriching a Wunderkammer or as a striking decorative element. This meteorite, like all minerals and natural fossils, may present small irregularities, cavities, or color variations that are intrinsic to its natural formation and do not alter its value or beauty.
