Camille Rousseau (1949) - Un dimanche en bord de mer ~...

Camille Rousseau (born in 1949) paints with sensitivity the world of France’s great beaches and the charm of the old seaside resorts. Her painting, imbued with Impressionist influence, is characterized by a free and expressive brushstroke, elegant silhouettes, and a keen attention to light. This oil on canvas evokes a Sunday on a beach in northern France, at a time when seaside holidays were synonymous with elegance and conviviality. Holidaymakers gather on the sand, some seated facing the sea, others gathered in small groups under their parasols. The refined clothing, hats and the attitudes of the figures recall the atmosphere of renowned seaside resorts along the Opal Coast and the Norman coastline. In the background, several sailboats appear on the sea, while the sky occupies a large portion of the composition. The shades of blue and grey bring freshness to the scene, in harmony with the warm tones of the sand. The pops of color in the clothing animate the whole without breaking its softness. Through its subject and mood, this work evokes Sunday strolls and the refined lifestyle associated with the great beaches of the North. It will appeal to lovers of seaside scenes, Impressionist painting, and elegant memories of holidays of yesteryear. The contemporary black frame, accented by a white inner border, creates a refined contrast with the painting’s luminous tones and enhances its intimate format.
