Toutes les enchères / Art Ancien / Byzantine Bronze “The Sacred Medallion” Devotional Coin...
A remarkable devotional pendant centered upon an authentic Byzantine bronze coin, depicting Christ Pantocrator—the Almighty and Eternal Teacher—holding the Holy Gospel Book while raising His right hand in blessing. Revered throughout the Christian world, this timeless image embodies divine wisdom, mercy, protection, and the promise of eternal life. The obverse presents Christ enthroned in majestic serenity, His nimbate halo surrounding a solemn and compassionate face. The richly detailed robes and the sacred Gospel Book, symbolizing the Word of God and the foundation of Christian faith, remain clearly discernible despite the passage of centuries. Encircling inscriptions complete this powerful iconographic composition, characteristic of Byzantine imperial coinage where faith and sovereignty were inseparably united. The reverse bears a beautifully preserved multi-line religious inscription, carefully arranged within a beaded circular border. Such inscriptions proclaimed the Christian devotion of the Byzantine Empire and invoked divine favor, transforming the coin into a portable profession of faith. Together, both sides create an object of profound spiritual significance that served not merely as currency, but as a constant reminder of divine guidance and protection. Expertly transformed into a wearable pendant while preserving its authentic historical character, this exceptional piece allows its owner to carry a genuine relic of the Byzantine world. The rich green and golden patina, naturally developed over centuries, enhances every detail and reflects the remarkable journey of this sacred object through history. Far more than jewelry, this pendant is a symbol of faith, hope, wisdom, and divine protection—an extraordinary devotional treasure that unites Byzantine artistry, Christian spirituality, and enduring historical legacy in a timeless wearable relic.
