Ecce Homo – Large devotional bust of Christ with crown of thorns – First half / mid-20th century Large and expressive devotional bust depicting Christ as Ecce Homo, wearing the Crown of Thorns. The sculpture shows Christ with long flowing hair and beard, his head slightly inclined, with a particularly expressive and solemn face. The Crown of Thorns and the pedestal are highlighted with a gold-coloured finish, contrasting with the warm brown/bronze-coloured patina of the figure. The inscription “ECCE HOMO” appears prominently at the front of the pedestal. The bust is a substantial decorative piece, weighing approximately 3.816 kg. It appears to be made from a moulded plaster or similar composition material with a painted and patinated finish. The number “124” is impressed/incised on the rear of the pedestal, probably corresponding to a model or mould number. No artist’s signature or manufacturer’s mark has been identified. Approximate period: first half to mid-20th century Material: moulded plaster/composition, painted and patinated Colour: brown/bronze tones with gold-coloured details Height: approx. 40–41 cm Width: approx. 25 cm Base diameter: approx. 14–15 cm Weight: 3.816 kg Model/mould number: 124 Condition: Good overall vintage condition, with age-related wear. There are several small chips, losses and areas of wear to the painted/patinated surface, particularly around the Crown of Thorns, hair and some edges. These imperfections are clearly visible in the photographs and are consistent with the age and nature of the object. An imposing and highly decorative religious sculpture with a strong visual presence, suitable for a collection of Christian devotional art, ecclesiastical objects or period interior decoration. Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
