Walnut Louis XV (Quinze) sloped-front desk with gilded bronze hardware. Slanted and contoured lid with behind it four drawers and a secret or “hidden” compartment, a small cellar. In the cellar there are also wooden sliding bolts to lock the two small drawers. The wide drawer has its own steel lock (original). Top inlaid with gilt-tooled leather that is very worn but with beautiful patina. Original hardware and locks in good and ready-to-use condition. France approx. 1740 / 1760. Dimensions: H = 97 cm. (Top of lid 74 cm.) W = 90 - 103 cm. (narrowest - widest) D = 50 cm. (lid open 86 cm.) Recently thoroughly checked for loose parts of construction and veneer.
