What remains today of their towns and villages emptied of their inhabitants? It is to answer this question that I went to Israel: to locate and photograph the vestiges of these ghostly localities vanished in the whirl of the 1948 war. This report is a journey through time; a visual trek to the origins of the refugee issue. These images are a testimony to a key moment in the region’s history whose consequences are today at the heart of our current affairs. From vanished Palestinian villages to the precarious refuges of migrants, he photographs less the event than its traces.
