Bracelet Silver Coral

An exceptional antique, multi-strand bracelet made of natural coral and natural pearls, presumably English workmanship from the first half of the 19th century. The bracelet consists of several rows of intensely orange-red, natural coral beads of very beautiful, vivid color. Notably, there are numerous genuine natural pearls (no cultured pearls). The large, massive and highly decorative clasp is made of gilded silver. It is richly perforated and ornamentally worked and set with coral as well as numerous natural pearls. On the back there are old hallmarks, including the initials “FD” and a separate hallmark with a lion. Due to the construction, the materials used, and the hallmarks, I suspect an English origin. As a possible attribution, it is worth checking for work from the circle of Frances Douglas; this attribution should, however, be explicitly verified by an expert based on the hallmarks. Stylistically, I would date the bracelet to the first half of the 19th century, possibly around 1820–1840. For its great age the bracelet is in an exceptionally beautiful, nearly perfect state of preservation. Particularly noteworthy are the intense, luminous color of the coral, the elaborate multi-row construction, and the magnificent, massive clasp.
