Bookends (2) - Gilt bronze

Beautiful pair of decorative antique/vintage bookends, depicting two figures in traditional costumes, a man and a woman, arranged with their backs to the books. The figures are made of bronze-patiné metal and feature many details: traditional headdresses, pleated garments, shoes and facial expressions. Each figure is mounted on a light marble base veined with pink, with a vertical marble section serving as the support for the books. A particularly decorative set, typical of office and library objects from the first half to mid-20th century. A beautiful combination of patinated metal and natural marble.
