Bold Lemon Citrine and Wyoming Jade Ring, Fochtmann, Munich, c. 2000

A carefree summer is captured in this ring from the turn of the millennium. An impressive lemon citrine, a large, transparent stone in a warm lime green, shines out of its 18-karat gold setting. The stone is cushion-shaped and faceted in a star cut. The view through the large table leads into the interior of the stone, where the reflections of the light on the numerous facets on the back of the stone delight the eye. The citrine is accompanied by two shoulders that are cut from stone and give the impression that the jewel is bedded on moss. The artfully crafted shoulders are made of wyoming jade, a rare variety of nephrite from the USA. This jade, known for its soft, waxy sheen, is formed over millions of years deep within the earth. Its characteristic green tones range from delicate olive to rich dark green. This unusual ring came to us from Berlin-Charlottenburg. It was made by the jeweler Fochtmann, Munich.
