Ring Black Chalama Opal / Cabochon / new In 925. Sterling silver setting 11.0 mm x 8.4 mm Weight: 2.56 g New and unworn Ring size: U 59 UK R US 8.7 FR 19 Inner diameter: 18.8 mm Black opals, like their differently colored counterparts, occur as spherical to nodular masses with no recognizable crystal structure. Their beauty usually reveals itself only upon polishing of this material. Characteristic of this form of opals is their opalescence, which manifests in intense rainbow-like flashes. Additionally, the host rock of the opal here is dark, gray to black, which gave it this name. Black opals form, just like other opals, from silica-containing fluids that crystallize in sedimentary or volcanic rocks. Their characteristic shimmer is due to water inclusions within the interior of the mineral. Shipping as insured registered mail.
