Toutes les enchères / Livres, Cartographie & Manuscrits / BINDING. — *Mercure de France*, dedicated to the King. Decem - Lot 145

BINDING. — *Mercure de France*, dedicated to the King. December 1760. Paris: Chaubert, Jorry, Prault, Duchesne, Cailleau, Cellot, n.d. [1760]. In-12, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, fleur-de-lis at the corners, coat of arms in the center, decorated spine with repeated fleur-de-lis, inner roulette, lining and endpapers of gilt-patterned paper, gilt edges (contemporary binding). A morocco-bound copy bearing the coat of arms of King Louis XV. It retains the rare Revolutionary confiscation tag affixed to the upper inside front cover, bearing the name L. Capet and an inventory number. On the reverse, the printed notation: “Chambre de madame comtesse d’Artois.” This respectful designation is surprising when compared to the “L [ouis] Capet” used to refer to the King of France. The wife of the future King Charles X of France (between 1824 and 1830), who died in 1805, the Countess of Artois would never become Queen of France. There is a small tear at the top edges.
