Beautiful White Gold Vintage Ring with Ruby & Diamonds, Italy c. 1980

This ring is set with two different gemstones: A ruby in intense red shines in the center of the oval ring face. It is slightly raised above the ring face by a prong setting. Ten white diamonds frame the precious center stone. All stones are set in high-carat white gold, which further enhances their color effect. This piece of jewellery is a classic entourage ring. The term entourage (from escort, entourage) refers to rings whose center stone is accompanied by a wreath of diamonds. This ring shape was already known and popular in past centuries. It became popular again in the second half of the 20th century. The fact that, as here, the diamonds surround a larger ruby can be understood symbolically: In the language of gemstones, the ruby was once regarded as the stone of love, while the diamond was seen as a symbol of eternity due to its great hardness. The result is a classic engagement ring. Our ring from around 1980 is in very good condition and, according to the hallmark, was made in Italy. It came to us from Thuringia.
