A highly collectible original 1970 Japanese first-issue box-set pressing of The Beatles’ Let It Be, released by Apple / Toshiba Musical Industries under catalogue number AP-9009. Issued in Japan on 5 June 1970, AP-9009 was the original Japanese presentation of Let It Be. Rather than appearing simply as a conventional LP, the album was initially offered in this elaborate box-set format, closely following the concept of the British first issue and pairing the record with the substantial “The Beatles Get Back” photographic book. This makes AP-9009 one of the most distinctive early Japanese Beatles releases and an important part of the band’s international discography. The original package was unusually ambitious for a Japanese LP of the period. It contained the album in its own dedicated single sleeve, the large photographic Get Back book, a Japanese lyric insert and a specially constructed black presentation box with an internal tray to hold the book. Contemporary Japanese copies carried a retail price of ¥3,900, which is printed on the rear of the LP sleeve. The substantial 164-page Get Back book documents the Beatles during the sessions that ultimately became the Let It Be project, using extensive photography from Ethan A. Russell. Original books are notoriously fragile because of their glued binding, and loose pages are frequently encountered today. This example retains the original outer box, LP sleeve, record, Get Back photographic book and Japanese lyric insert. Please note that the original internal cardboard book tray is missing, and the original OBI is not present. The contents included are exactly those shown in the photographs. The vinyl retains a respectable gloss but shows visible lines, superficial marks and general play wear consistent with the grade. It remains a genuine original AP-9009 record and an important component of this increasingly difficult Japanese first-issue set. Outer Box: VG The original black presentation box shows clear age-related wear, particularly around the edges and corners. There is rubbing, whitening and general storage wear visible across the construction, but the box remains intact and recognisable and still presents the set very well. Get Back Book: VG The original photographic book is present and remains an essential part of this first Japanese issue. There is general age-related handling wear and several pages have become loose from the binding. This is a well-known weakness of the original construction and has been fully reflected in the VG grading. Japanese Insert The original AP-9009 Japanese lyric sheet is included. It shows noticeable foxing and age-related spotting/staining, clearly visible in the photographs, but remains complete and readable.
