In this auction, a refined and imposing gilded bronze fountain sculpture of notable size and weight from the 20th century. The sculpture depicts a putto cherub, always in bronze, lying on a huge shell with a fish in its hands. The fountain is magnificent and highly scenographic, crafted with an elegant putto seated on a shell supported by three large fish at the base. The sculptural force of the artist is conveyed to the lively and cheerful fish engaged in splashing. The overall impression of this impressive sculpture faithfully recalls the sumptuous French and Italian classical sculptures used in important indoor or outdoor interiors. They were often displayed in venues of high representation such as private houses or hôtels particuliers. The Baroque style is classical, characterizing the sculpture. The gilded bronze gives the sculpture a richly luxurious appearance, lending prestige and luminosity, making it ideal for monumental entrances, villas, hotels, charming hotels, or exclusive residences.
