Together with the sitter's last will and testament (2) Provenance: By descent through the sitter's family Condition Report: The canvas has been lined and restored. Some light craquelure throughout, together with a small (approx. 1cm), but thicker area of cracking between the sitter's eyes. Rubbing and abrasions to the framing edges. Superficial surface scratching and scuffing throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals a thick, heavy varnish, possibly attempting to conceal previous over-paint. Scattered retouching is easily visible, with some broader, earlier over-painting partially visible under the varnish.
