Art Deco Alms dish - .835 silver - 1910-1920 - Silver mesh and chain.

Silver 835 mesh purse, brand GVK, Germany, 1910s-1920s Elegant mesh purse made of sterling silver 835, as confirmed by the '835' hallmark visible on the frame next to the manufacturer's mark 'GVK' inscribed within a triangular shield. This type of fine coin purses and handbags, known as 'mesh purses' or silver mesh bags, were very popular in the late Edwardian period and the early Art Deco era, with production dating to around the 1910s-1920s. The 835 fineness mark and the manufacturer's shield mark are characteristic of German silverware of the era, clearly indicating a German origin. The piece is constructed with a fine mesh of silver woven in tiny linked rings, flawless, giving it a flexible, silky drape. It is in perfect condition, complete, with no mesh damage, with the 835 silver chain also intact and the inner silk lining undamaged (extremely rare). The lower edge is finished with small spherical tassels that add movement and weight to the mesh. The top mount features a rectangular frame with hammered decoration (hammered effect) and a kiss-lock clasp with two oval end caps functioning as push-buttons. The interior is lined in light-toned silk. Overall excellent conservation state for its age, with a natural patina on the silver consistent with the period. The mesh is intact and flexible, with no breaks, all 835 silver hanging tassels present and the chain in 835 silver. The kiss-lock closes correctly and the chain is complete. The lower spherical end caps are preserved. Mesh bags of this period are highly valued by collectors of antique accessories and silverware, as well as for their decorative and vintage fashion appeal. The presence of the 835 fineness mark next to the manufacturer's mark 'GVK' in a triangular shield reinforces its authenticity and traceability. They stand as a testament to the refinement of women's fashion in the early 20th century and the high craftsmanship of German gold- and silversmiths of the era. Period: 1910s-1920s Material: Silver 835, Silk Origin: Germany Manufacturer: GVK Condition: Excellent
