Antonio Palmieri (1946–2019) - Sous le parapluie blanc —...

Antonio Palmieri (1946–2019): Beneath the White Umbrella — Fleeting Elegance in the Heart of the City Antonio Palmieri (1946–2019), an Italian painter born in Naples, was a self-taught artist known for his expressive approach to painting and his exceptional use of colour. His work is characterised by large compositions, intense colours and a painterly language focused on sensation, movement and atmosphere. Urban scenes, particularly female figures beneath umbrellas, occupy an important place in his artistic universe. In this composition, an elegant woman, seen from behind, walks beneath a large white umbrella. Her silhouette stands out against an urban setting suggested through vertical forms and fragmented perspectives. With her face concealed and her movement captured in a fleeting moment, the figure draws the viewer into the scene. The palette combines icy blues, greys and luminous whites with touches of ochre, brown and red. Generous paint texture, impasto and confident brushwork give the scene remarkable depth. Contours sometimes dissolve into colour, while strong contrasts animate the composition between abstraction and figuration. True to Palmieri’s artistic universe, the painting seeks less to describe a specific street than to convey its visual and emotional impression. The white umbrella becomes the luminous focal point around which colour, texture and movement unfold. An expressive and atmospheric painting characteristic of the artist’s urban imagery, appealing to collectors of contemporary Italian painting and figurative works rich in texture and colour.
