Toutes les enchères / Mobilier, Design & Miroirs / Antique wax seal in mother-of-pearl and silvered metal - France
Elegant and refined antique desk seal (seal for sealing wax) dating from the late 19th century (Napoleonic III era / late 1800s), of clearly French manufacture. The object stands out for the splendid rised balustrade handle in precious natural mother-of-pearl with iridescent reflections. On the side of the handle there is a refined period engraving in elegant cursive (Anglaise script) bearing the name of a French locality (identifiable as "Avesnes"), an element that testifies to its origin as an exclusive souvenir or high-fashion item of the era. The connecting collar is finely worked with a stepped edge in silvered metal with ornamental decorative motifs. The most remarkable and highly collectible feature is its square matrix, completely VIRGIN (smooth, never inscribed). The object has never been personalized, preserved in its original manufacturing state from the era, as an untouched stock room piece. Technical Details & Specifications Type: Antique seal / sealing stamp (Sceau cachet de bureau) Era: Late 19th century (circa 1880–1900) Origin: France Height: 7 cm Weight: 25 grams Handle Material: Natural iridescent mother-of-pearl Mounting Material: Silvered metal / Silvered bronze Matrix State: Virgin (smooth, uninscribed) Matrix Shape: Square Overall Condition: Good condition, consistent with age and use of the item. The mother-of-pearl retains its natural shine intact. Noted are some small era-appropriate aesthetic imperfections on the edge, including a small, solid re-gluing on the edge of the metal connecting collar, which does not compromise the stability or the structural beauty of the piece. It presents a beautiful natural patina on the metal. Please carefully view the photographic gallery, which shows in detail every feature and sign of time, forming an integral part of the description.
