Antique Vessel - Terracotta - 1850-1900 - Tinaja Ibérica

Magnificent Iberian 19th-century terracotta jar, a representative example of the traditional pottery of the Iberian Peninsula intended for both domestic and agricultural storage. Its solid construction and balanced silhouette, with a globular body of broad shoulders, a short neck, and an opening reinforced by a thick molded rim, reflect the functionality and artisanal skill characteristic of the ancient Mediterranean pottery centers. Thrown on the wheel and fired in an oxidizing atmosphere, it presents a warm reddish tone enriched by dark nuances generated by use, aging, and variations inherent to the firing process. The surface preserves the traces and small irregularities that attest to its manual crafting, giving it authenticity and a pronounced sculptural presence. Of special note is the decoration that runs along the upper perimeter of the body, comprising a series of incised low-relief motifs of schematic and geometric character, formed by linear and wavy patterns of great formal simplicity. This ornamental repertoire, common in numerous popular productions of the 19th century, provides visual rhythm without disturbing the sober balance of the piece, becoming an elegant testimony to the vernacular decorative tradition. The patina acquired with the passage of time, together with the natural wear of the terracotta, endows the jar with notable aesthetic appeal and a deep historic character. Ideal as a decorative element in rustic, Mediterranean, or contemporary interiors, it can be used as a collectible piece, ornamental container, or distinguished architectural accent. A work that combines functionality, tradition, and the timeless beauty of Spanish popular ceramics of the 19th century. Certified shipping and careful packing.
