Toutes les enchères / Mobilier, Design & Miroirs / Antique photo locket pendant in low-karat Bourbon gold or laminated

Splendid and fascinating antique photo locket medallion (Late 1800s - Early 1900s), an excellent example of sentimental jewelry from the Liberty/Umbertine transition. The piece is structurally intact, complete and 100% original, arriving to us exactly in its factory-original configuration. On the front it houses a beautiful and very elegant vintage male portrait photograph, protected by its original domed glass. The oval frame is adorned with a fine beaded edge and exquisite floral decorations applied (small raised roses and leaves) on the upper and lower sides. On the back, the smooth locking plate bears the clear maker's mark “SD” accompanied by the graphic hallmarks of crossed tools (Hammer and Nail), a precious testimony of the jewelry engineering and the mechanized production of fine upcoming jewelry from the late 19th to the 20th century. MAXIMUM TRANSPARENCY ABOUT STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONING To ensure maximum clarity and fairness to the buyer, the following technical details of the object are specified: Metal nature: The object is made of low-karat gold / antique gold-filled (Gold Double / Gold Filled technique). This is a historic manufacturing process in which a thin sheet of low-karat gold covers a commercial metal base (such as brass or bronze). On the back the metal has developed a warm, natural brown patina due to time, typical of this specific jewelry alloy. Original intended use: The piece was factory-made as a fixed central ornament or pass-through element to be inserted along male apparel accessories of the time, such as a pocket ribbon (Ribbon Fob) or a watch chain (Albert Chain). No restoration or breakage: The back plate is completely smooth and shows no trace of old welds, scratches, or needle holes for sewing. The piece is not a private brooch of your hook, but is structurally complete and born exactly in this form. The side loops and technical holes: The cylindrical loops seen on the sides are entirely blocked and sealed from the start by the pins of the decorative rosettes. Beneath the roses you can see the very small millimetric ventilation holes used in manufacture for welding and nailing the flower pins. The object is compact and has no moving or rotating parts. FOCUS ON THE HISTORY OF THE PHOTOGRAPH AND THE PORTRAIT The heart of the medallion is made up of an authentic photograph that has been well preserved: Type: Antique photograph (likely albumen or gelatin), trimmed and fitted to measure in the medallion according to the memory jewelry usage (Memento). Subject: The portrait shows a gentleman with short haircut and prominent handlebar mustache, typical of European male fashion between 1890 and 1910. State of preservation: The photo has been optimally preserved under the original glass. It shows no humidity blooms, mold, or serious fading, maintaining an excellent tonal range of vintage shading. FOCUS ON ROSES MANUFACTURE The shaping and mounting of the upper and lower floral elements are entirely original: Stampage by matrix: The rosettes and leaves were made by hot stamping from a thin sheet, internally hollow to ensure light structural weight without losing petal detail sharpness. Satin finish: The surface of the flowers shows a vintage satin finish, designed to create a very elegant visual contrast with the smooth back mirror and the beaded edge. TECHNICAL FEATURES Era: circa 1890 - 1910 (Liberty / Umbertine era) Material: Low-karat gold / antique gold-filled (Gold Double / Gold Filled). Marks/ Punching: Initials “SD” with hammer and crossed chisel symbol on the back. Total weight: 6.3 grams (solid and substantial construction). Dimensions: Height 3 cm (compact oval, ideal for collecting or display). Condition: Excellent overall historical condition. The portrait is sharp, the protective glass is intact and free of flaws. The metal shows the normal and fascinating wear of time.
