Toutes les enchères / Autres / Antique Doorbell - 1850-1900 - Napoleon III
apoleon III-style desk/counter bell, 19th century. Materials: cast and chased bronze. Elegant counter bell made in bronze during the 19th century, representative of the refined decorative taste of the Napoleon III period. The piece combines functionality and ornamental richness, characteristics that defined much of the French decorative arts of the era. It features a semispherical bell with a sober profile supported by a turned stem that rests on a base richly decorated. The latter exhibits an elaborate repertoire of vegetal motifs, scrolls, and reliefs inspired by historicism, typical of the ornamental eclecticism that distinguished the Napoleon III style. The finely worked top finish provides visual balance to the composition and evidences the attention given to decorative details. The warm tone of the bronze, enriched by an attractive antiqued patina, highlights the volumes and reliefs of the base, giving the whole piece notable aesthetic presence. The side operating mechanism preserves its original design and contributes to the authentic character of the piece. Designed for receptions, hotels, commercial counters, or distinguished residences, this type of bell was a common element in elegant interiors of the second half of the 19th century, where utilitarian objects were fully integrated into the decoration. Condition: good overall condition, with aged patina, surface wear and signs of use in keeping with its age. The mechanism works correctly, producing a clear and pleasant sound—a circumstance especially valued in these historic pieces. Magnificent example of 19th-century French decorative metalwork, ideal for collectors of Napoleon III objects, hotel antiques, and European decorative arts. Insured shipping and careful packaging.
