Antique Bracelet with Diamonds & Natural Pearl in Platinum on Gold, c. 1920

Some pieces of jewelry derive their appeal not from a multitude of sparkling diamonds, nor from their size, nor from the contrast of brilliant colours—but precisely from a deliberate use of restraint as a stylistic device. This bracelet is one such piece. It is designed to be delicate and understated, yet refined and distinctive in its details. At the center of the design is a natural pearl in a round illusion setting, flanked by two old-cut diamonds in carré settings. The trio stands out only subtly in size and color from the rest of the bracelet, which is designed as a narrow line. No ornament adorns it—only the platinum surface shimmers with a cool, elegant luster. One is almost surprised when the perfect line of metal yields to the touch and the bracelet glides softly and flexibly around the wrist. Ornamentation is only revealed when viewed from the side, which is adorned throughout with fine hand engravings. This elegant bracelet was created around 1920, most likely in Great Britain.
