Toutes les enchères / Mobilier, Design & Miroirs / Antique Architectural ornament - 1850-1900 - Antique facade anchor

A rare and characteristic wrought-iron wall anchor / facade anchor from North Holland. This beautiful piece of historic construction material breathes the rich ambience of pre-industrial North Dutch architecture from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The refined butterfly design with graceful scroll details blends seamlessly with the Dutch Renaissance and the later Classicism. This type of decorative wrought ironwork was traditionally widely used on the facades of monumental canal houses, historic West Frisian manor houses, and the iconic North Holland stolp farms to firmly connect the heavy wooden beam floors with the masonry. This anchor was entirely hand-forged at the anvil by an early village smith. There is absolutely no modern welding involved; all connections were forged together in the smithy fire. Additionally, the solid elements are traditionally mechanically joined by a welded wrought-iron strap/clamp that had been cut off after dismantling. Craftsmanship gives the iron its unique historic texture and character. An absolute asset for anyone looking to restore a historic building in North Holland (or beyond) in original style. Also a beautiful, robust object for antique building material enthusiasts to use as industrial wall decoration, or as a rustic focal point on a carriage shed or garden wall. Features: - Origin: North Holland region - Material: Authentic, heavy historic wrought iron - Construction: All connections handcrafted, no modern welding - Architectural character: Dutch Renaissance / traditional stolp farmhouse & canal house style - Condition: Solid, heavy quality with a beautifully weathered patina
