Animal Heads - Yoruba - Nigeria

Animal-Head Nigeria Yoruba culture, kingdom of Ife. 20th century Bronze H.40cm Captivating Yoruba bronze head from Nigeria. The face bears a stern and impassive expression. The figure seems absorbed in thought. It has a troubling presence. Animals adorn its face. Birds on the crown, geckos on the temples and at the corners of the mouth, and snakes on the cheeks. The overall composition is well balanced. This head was crafted using the lost-wax technique (see Google), which makes this work unique. The metal is fine, a testament to the skill of its creator.
