Angelo Minghetti (1822–1885) - Plate - Majolica - The Orpheus charger

In this masterful piece by Angelo Minghetti, 19th-century Bolognese majolica becomes a mirror reflecting the Renaissance with a vibrant and renewed nostalgia. The large plate, a surface of earthenware that exudes the heritage of Urbino and Castel Durante, is the stage for a lyrical composition where the chiaroscuro technique serves the myth: Orpheus, in a poetic anachronism, plays not the lyre, but a violin, whose bow seems to pluck notes that stop time on Parnassus. Minghetti's palette, rich in golden ochres, deep blues, and emerald greens, envelops the figures in a dreamlike atmosphere, where the small, precise brushstrokes reconstruct classical anatomy with an almost painterly clarity. It is not a mere copy of the past; It is a reinterpretation where Renaissance monumentality merges with the delicacy of the nineteenth century, making the enamel shine not only because of its firing, but also because of the light of a recovered antiquity that seems to vibrate to the rhythm of the eternal music of the Thracian poet. - Provenance: Private collection in Madrid. - Measurements: 51 x 51 cm - Good general condition.
