Of Italian origin, he was the youngest of three brothers in a humble family that lived in the Pompeya neighborhood. At school, drawing maps was what he liked most, he collected bird stamps, he watched the huge ships coming across the Atlantic, convinced that one day they would make possible his meeting with Europe. What he really had very clear was that he wanted to be a great artist. He had to leave school to go to work. In his spare time he drew all the time. Baldovino began at the School of Fine Arts in 1949, but left after a few years. He continued his training by attending the workshop of the master Demetrio Urruchúa, delved into spatial organization with the architect and painter Teresio Fara and began in printmaking with Leonelo Muñeza. One day among many when Baldovino was at his market stall in San Telmo square, something unexpected happened. The director of a famous gallery in Venice stopped to admire his paintings and, to the artist's amazement, proposed exhibiting in his gallery. Happiness completely overwhelmed him, since that meant the realization of a dream: to travel to the European continent, and exhibit there, specifically in Italy, the cradle of art and the country of origin of his ancestors. Finally in November 1973 he exhibited at the Bevilacqua La Masa Gallery, located in St. Mark's Square in Venice. In that show one could see the landscapes of ports and lonely streets made in Buenos Aires. It was a fulfilled and culminated with a strong success by the public and the press. He settled in Venice for two years and this exhibition was followed by three more in the same city, at the Fontana, Silvestre and Santa Lucía galleries. In the mid- to late seventies he returned to Argentina and integrated into the local plastic environment, offering works that summarized his European experience. In 1976 political events cast a black shadow over the Argentine panorama. There began the mass exile of people who fled a defeated and subjected country, due to the fear they felt toward the cruel dictatorship. Among them was Baldovino, who did not hesitate for a moment to embark again to cross the Atlantic, this time to Mallorca, invited by his great friend Cándido Ballester. The artist abandoned the landscape style and presented his most abstract painting tendency, influenced by the original art of South America. Arriving on the island he met Rafael Jaume and Esteban Pisón, with whom he maintained a formidable friendship and collaboration around poetry. In the early eighties, the artist was fully integrated into the island cultural scene. Subsequently he spent long periods between Mallorca and the Netherlands. His painting began to delve into the realm of the soul's emotions, influenced by the freedom of spirit and thought promoted by the great artist and theorist Kandinsky. Poetry and nature intertwine in Baldovino's painting, giving rise to a lyrical abstraction, where forms and colors respond to an inner need. Calm, stillness, balance and harmony become the themes of his compositions.
