The previous owner, a private collector, N.N. from the Netherlands, stated that the object had been in his collection since the 1990s. According to the previous owner, the object had previously been in a private collection in the Netherlands since the 1990s. No further information concerning the earlier ownership history of the object was available from the previous owner. Background Information: This cast bronze finger ring features a large oval bezel decorated with multiple ring-and-dot motifs arranged across its surface. The ring-and-dot design was one of the most widespread decorative patterns in Roman metalwork, appearing on jewellery, military fittings, horse harnesses, furniture mounts, and domestic objects throughout the Empire. Its repeated circular motifs created a balanced geometric composition that was both decorative and instantly recognisable. Bronze finger rings such as this were worn by men and women from a broad range of Roman society. While some rings served as personal seals or carried engraved gemstones, many examples relied solely on moulded ornamentation. The carefully executed ring-and-dot decoration reflects the Roman appreciation for simple yet effective geometric designs that could be reproduced efficiently by skilled craftsmen. Produced by casting in bronze, rings of this type formed part of an organised manufacturing tradition supplying both civilian and military markets. Comparable examples have been recovered from settlements, villas, military forts, and cemeteries across the Roman Empire. Such jewellery was traded across large distances, reaching regions such as present-day Germany, France, Britain, and the Netherlands."
