Ancient Chinese, Ming dynasty Pottery Funerary model

Four miniature glazed funerary objects from the Ming period – (#5205) Taking care of loved ones in the afterlife was and still is very important to the Chinese people. For thousands of years miniature copies of the things which were used in real life were interred with the dead. During the Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644), blue, green, brown and aubergine glazes were used to give pottery objects, also called tile-works, more appeal. The objects were acquired from antiques dealers in Hong Kong in the period 1989-1994 and were formerly part of the Lowlands-collection. There is little doubt that this object was modeled after a bronze original. It is in good condition. Height 7.2 cm. Diameter base 3.8 cm. (3) Stool Miniature glazed pottery stool. Its glazed part is aubergine colored while the top is cold-painted in black. Height 5.2 cm. Seat 4.4 cm square. Base 4.1 cm square. (4) Water vessel Miniature green glazed pottery model of a water vessel. Vessels such as this were filled with water to be used when there was a fire, which happened frequently because the houses were built of wood. In reality these vessels were quite large.
