Natural phenomenon: Under artificial light or against a light background the stone appears yellow, honey-colored or deep dark red. However, once exposed to UV radiation, the molecules (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons such as perylene) light up and a spectacular blue glow arises. Origin: This type of fossil resin is millions of years old and is predominantly derived from the extinct prehistoric tree species Hymenaea protera.
