He recounts having met him again later, renting a hotel in Saint-Raphaël, living somewhat on the margins, surrounded by rumors or stern judgments (« a bit of a bear »), but with whom he maintained cordial visits. - Alphonse Karr asserts that no trouble or blameworthy conduct of intellectual or obvious order could be reproached to him in his lifetime, and offers prudent clarifications to illuminate his correspondent while advising him to remain measured in his démarches.
