First edition of the large-format atlas to Alexander von Humboldt’s famous work “Cosmos.” The atlas originally appeared in eight installments and illustrates Humboldt’s scientific description of the natural world. A complete copy with 136 pages of explanatory text and all 42 plates. The predominantly colored lithographic and engraved plates cover, among other things, astronomy, geography, geology, mountains, bodies of water, flora and fauna, climate zones, historical empires, explorations, and world trade.
