After Gu Kaizhi, Admonitions of the Instructress, woodblock printed scroll, c.1912-13, commissioned by Sidney Colvin in a limited edition of 100 for the Trustees of the British Museum, blocks cut by Sugizaki Hideaki, printed by Urushibara Mokuchu, 25cm x 462cm, Rarely seen with original booklet in Chinese and English translation, and original Japanese fitted box, some related newspaper cuttings. Provenance - Ray Nestor (1888-1989), a British artist, farmer, and early conservationist. In 1950, Nestor and his wife Dorothy left Kenya and retired to Crowborough, Sussex, where he became a keen collector of Chinese and Japanese art.
