ACKERMANN, MAX (1887-1975) "Komposition" 1953

ACKERMANN, MAX (1887-1975) "Komposition" 1953

In gutem Originalzustand. Die Farbenfrische des Pastells ist hervorragend erhalten. Auf den Blatträndern altersbedingt geringfügig gebräunt. Provenienz: Privatsammlung, Süddeutschland. | ACKERMANN, MAX (1887–1975) “Komposition” 1953 Pastel on paper with a fine deckle edge. Mounted all around under a passe-partout. Signed and dated in pencil lower right: “Ackermann 53.” Sheet size approx. 12 × 16 cm. Passe-partout opening approx. 14 × 18 cm. Framed 26 × 30 cm. The present pastel, dated 1953, is a characteristic example of Max Ackermann’s masterful handling of form and color in the post-war period. As one of the most important pioneers of abstract painting in Germany and a trained pupil of Adolf Hölzel, Ackermann devoted himself intensively to the rhythmic harmony of color. In a lyrical-abstract visual language, the artist layers cool shades of blue and violet, punctuated by dynamic accents of luminous orange and green. The delicate, filigree linear structures in charcoal and/or pencil lend the composition a floating, almost musical sense of spatial depth. The pastel technique allowed Ackermann to achieve a direct, tactile connection between drawing and painting, which is a particularly distinctive feature of works from this period of his career. Good original condition. The freshness of the pastel colors has been exceptionally well preserved. The edges of the sheet show slight age-related browning. Provenance: Private collection, Southern Germany.
