Toutes les enchères / Arts Graphiques / Abraham Lincoln Signed Military Appointment - Grad

Historic military appointment dated August 1, 1864, signed by President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton, appointing James W. Parks as First Lieutenant in the Veteran Reserve Corps, with rank from October 28, 1863. The Veteran Reserve Corps was composed of soldiers no longer fit for frontline combat who continued serving in administrative, hospital, garrison, and other essential military roles during the Civil War. Issued during one of the war's most pivotal periods, the appointment coincided with the Union campaigns at Petersburg and Atlanta and came just weeks before Lincoln drafted his confidential "Blind Memorandum" anticipating possible electoral defeat. The document remains housed in a late nineteenth-century gilt patriotic presentation frame and appears to have been laid down to board for display at the time of framing, as was commonly done during that era. A remarkable Civil War artifact bearing the signatures of both Lincoln and Stanton, accompanied by Steve Grad Authentication Letter of Verification, Certificate No. GA-05284. Estimate $6,000 - $10,000
